Over time you will learn that in this business it can be very very good,
and other times regardless of your efforts, nothing seems to go right.
I call it feast or famine, too much business or not enough business!
Be ready for it, but, on the bright side, good planning, having good communications
with other vendors, and keeping notes of the good events and the bad events
can help you level the playing field, and effect your bottom line GREATLY!!
There will be times that you just cannot get to all the events that are going on,
while other times it seems that you cannot find an event within a thousand miles.
Be ready, it just works out that way, Expect your area to have high and low seasons.
Do what you can to stay connected to other vendors, make them your friends.
Many times I have gotten a good lead to a event, in the early hours, before the event
opens the gates to the public, remember, the vendors are selling, and have money in their pocket.
Many vendors will visit around the booths, just looking, (and buying)
Often times they can and do tell you about upcoming shows.
They know about the events in their home area, and know the good events from
the bad events, but, do your own research, if they say an event was bad, ask why,
how was the weather? Was there another event that pulled the crowd?
Be carefull, don't be too quick to cut an event out! Often, there was a good
reason for a bad event, and maybe it has been corrected.
Also , when possible make the rounds, leave someone at your booth,
reach out introduce yourself and make some new friends.
Most vendors are great people. I like to kid with them, and say,
"And, What do you do in the real world?"
You may find that some of them share some of the values you do...
that's why they are in the vending business!
And, be ready to reach out, if your position will let you, the old saying
"the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, can be true.
What is the return to drive a few hundred miles for at $5000.00 event?
